Hospital Foundation Awards Scholarships to High School Students

Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Foundation is awarding scholarships to four area high school seniors who are planning a career in a healthcare field. 

"Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center supports continued education that will develop or increase employee competence and encourage students to pursue careers in healthcare. It is an integral part of our mission to ensure healthcare professionals are available to provide optimal healthcare to our community," said Kayleen Lee, the organization's CEO. 

One scholarship recipient was selected from each of four area high schools including Boyden-Hull, Sioux Center, Unity, and Western. Recipients are awarded $500 each.  Recipients of the 2009 Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center Foundation Scholarships are: Stephen Blom, son of Sheryl Blom of Sheldon, who plans to pursue a career in nursing through Northwest Iowa Community College; Henry Byl, son or Henry and Karla Byl of Sioux Center, who plans to pursue a career in physical therapy through Dordt College; Katie Kraayenbrink, daughter of Dale and Brenda Kraayenbrink of Sioux Center, who plans to pursue a career in pharmacy through South Dakota State University; and April Ten Haken, daughter of Dave and Julie Ten Haken of Hull, who plans to pursue a career in nursing through Hope College.

"I am very pleased that the Foundation board is committed to supporting these endeavors," said Les Brommer, Foundation Board President. "It is a great honor to be able to help support these students in their education within the healthcare field."
