Touch nourishes the body as knowledge nourishes the soul
Avera St. Benedict Wellness Center offers various types of massage including Swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular, stone therapy, and facial treatments.
Physiological effects of therapeutic massage
Reduces pain by
- Stimulating the production of endorphines (the body's natrual pain killers) to help provide a power muscle relaxant.
- Introducing new information through the nervous system which helps to re-educate muscles in poor posture.
- Flushing out lactic acid that pools in the muscles causing tissues to be more alkaline, which in turn restores the PH balance and helps the body to return to a state of homeostasis (the body's natural state of harmony).
- Helping to reduce DOMS (Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness). Post event massage will help reduce DOMS dramatically.
Increases strength by
- Maximizing performance ability.
Decreases stress by
- Increasing mental awareness.
- Decreasing the heart rate and lowering anxiety levels.
Improves overall health by
- Increasing venous (vein) circulation of blood and lymphatic flow.
- Flushing out toxins by increasing the flow of the immune system.
- Stimulating and inducing an anti-depressant effect.
Types of Massage
Swedish massage offers full relaxation through long, smooth strokes which access the superficial muscle fibers. This classic European massage will effectively help in maintaining your body's general state of health. It is beneficial as a stress reliever with the added intention of full body relaxation.
Deep Tissue massage stimulates deep muscla relaxation through the manipulation of deep tissue fibers. By manipulating deep muscle fibers, we can effectively re-educate muscles to work properly, helping to support the body's own natural abilities to heal.
Neuromuscular is a type of therapy that is beneficial to those suffering from chronic pain in a specific area. Relying on Trigger Point Therapy, the involved muscules are released through a series of four or five sessions. Neuromuscular therapy is recommended like this form of massage.
Stone Therapy is availble with both Swedish and Deep Tissue massage. Please specify if you would like this form of massage.
Hot Tub use is also available. If you are not a wellness member, please inquire how this form of therapy can benefit you.
