Screenings

Early detection is key to treatment and prevention. Avera De Smet Memorial Hospital offers several screenings to the public to promote awareness of diseases such as prostate cancer, diabetes, heart disease, cardio-pulmonary dysfunction, osteoporosis and more.

Upcoming planned screenings include:

  • Prostate Screening – September (date TBA): Prostate screening for men is recommended annually after the age of 50 or, if over the age of 40 for African American men or men with a family history of prostate cancer. This simple blood test and examination is available to everyone. Call 605-854-3329 for more information.
  • Heart & Heel Screening – February (date TBA): Cardiac and osteoporosis heel screens. Watch for further information.
  • Town & Country Show (dates TBA): Free blood pressure checks at the annual Town & Country Show.
  • Crazy Days (date TBA): Free blood pressure checks at De Smet's Crazy Days celebration.
  • Yearly Spring Sports Physicals: High school athletes are screened for physical fitness, free of charge, prior to beginning the sports season.
