Good News

Feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul, Apostle

“Praise the LORD, all you nations; glorify him, all you peoples! For steadfast is his kindness toward us, and the fidelity of the LORD endures forever. Go out and share the Good News.” (Psalm 117:1-2 and response)

Each year as the Christmas season approaches, I get swept up in the spirit of the season and, like many others, feel joyful at the prospect of time with family, laughter with friends and the comfort of traditions. It is easier to smile at strangers and offer a greeting of†Merry Christmas†or “Happy New Year†instead of the standard “Hello†or “Good Morning.†Despite the cold outside, these feelings bring warmth.

As January comes to a close, the challenge is how to extend these feelings through the next ten months!  I’m reminded by this Psalm that God’s love for us doesn’t just shine during Christmas and that the kindnesses He shows through the love of family, friends and colleagues should be celebrated every day, no matter the season. By recognizing and being thankful each day for these gifts, I can celebrate God’s love for me and in turn, share it with those around me. Good news indeed!

God of all kindness,

help us to recognize the many gifts You bestow upon us,

so that we may experience gratitude in our everyday lives.

Open our eyes and lips and instill in us Your Words,

so that we may proclaim the Good News to all. Amen.
