“When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem . . .” (Luke 9:51)
I subscribe to “Living with Christ,” a daily prayer supplement, and when I was studying today’s passage I read that Luke arranged the material of his Gospel around a journey theme, with Jesus on his great journey to Jerusalem. The journey starts in today’s passage, and it is interesting to note that the first thing Jesus faces is rejection. In this passage he is rejected by Samaritans because of the longstanding animosity between Samaritans and Jews.
Today, and as his journey unfolds, Jesus responds with non-violence, not meeting rejection with rejection or hatred with hatred. Jesus shows us the way on our journey, he is shows us how to live.
At Avera, we too are on our journey of faith in the healing ministry of Jesus. Some days are filled with joy, excitement and anticipation, and in some we find pain, disappointment and even crisis. It is important for us to stop, take a deep breath, and remember, we are not alone in our journey, wherever that journey may take us.
