Hear and Observe

Saturday, October 12, 2013

Saturday of the Twenty-Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

“While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, ‘Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.’ He replied, ‘Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.’” (LUKE 11:27-28)

This scripture passage reminds me of the families we hosted for the 12th Annual Avera Quality Congress. Each family had inspiring faith. One family had a son with traumatic brain injury; another had Stevens-Johnson syndrome due to a medication hypersensitivity; and the other family had a member, now recovering, who suffered for more than a year from the West Nile Virus.

Each family gave a passionate story of the illness and their faith in overcoming the difficulty. Each shared how much they appreciate the dedication and commitment of Avera to the healing ministry of Jesus.

This brings to life for me our mission and how each member of our ministry hears the Word of God and observes it.

Dear Lord,

we pray for all patients and families in our care.

Guide our healing hands to serve the ministry of Jesus.

Send Your spirit upon us, and help us to hear the Word of God.

Amen.
