“Jesus went up to the mountain to pray And he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles.” (Luke 6:12-16)
Could I stay up all night and pray? As I read this I thought immediately of the discipline that it would take, how selfish I am in wanting my sleep, and I lamented about the martyr I would be. Jesus made Himself do what needed to be done because He wanted eternal life for all to come. He didn't complain because He could take one for the team.
Then He gathered His disciples. Unbeknownst to them, they were to experience a life-changing moment. I can't imagine what that must have felt like, standing before Jesus, feeling all kinds of feelings. Then He calls their names.
This is the day I pray for, the day I live for: to stand before Him in all His glory and to be called.
We are called everyday by Him. When my phone rings and someone says, "Can you help me," or "Can you help my husband, wife, son or daughter. When the call light sounds and we hear" "Can someone help me," or "I need to see my nurse." Whatever the request, we are being called by Jesus as one of His disciples.
The mission of Avera in our hallways 24/7 is from Jesus, who calls us all to be one of His.
