“When he entered the house, the blind men approached him, and Jesus said to them, Do you believe that I can do this?” (Matthew 9:28)
These two blind men were obviously desperate. They had been blind since birth. They had seen nothing of God's magnificent world. As Jesus passed by, they began to follow Him, crying aloud. "Have mercy on us, Son of David." They certainly acted as if they thought they could receive something from this Jesus about whom everyone was talking! They followed Him into a house, and He finally acknowledged their presence when He asked "Do you believe I am able to do this?"
When they replied, "Yes Lord," He touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith be it done to you. Their eyes were opened! Once again our Lord, Jesus, makes the miraculous sound so simple! If you believe, it shall be so.
Are there blind spots in my life that keep me from recognizing God's power and mercy? If a miracle is needed, what is stopping me from asking for that to occur? Am I afraid of what the answer might be? Is my faith too weak? Are miracles past history? God's mercy and power is fulfilled in Jesus. Mercy, especially from God, removes suffering and pain and Jesus says, just ask!
I've re-learned this basic truth during 2013, and I know God has time to listen. He can only listen and respond, however, if I ask! I know that the response may not be instantaneous, and it may not be exactly what I was seeking, but asking is part of the process! I also ask for God's wisdom and strength in dealing with answers to my petitions. Whatever the response from God might be, it works every time! One small insight: God is listening! There have been too many answered prayers lately for that not to be so!
