“I had rather one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I had rather lie at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.” (Psalm 84:10)
When I daydream about heaven or spend time thinking about my parents and other loved ones who dwell in heaven, I feel at peace. For many reasons, I am comforted by the thought of a place filled with peace and love, free from sorrow and pain, where all who enter have eternal life. How lovely indeed is the dwelling house of our Lord!
Yet in the day-to-day routine of work, school and other activities, I forget that we also dwell in the Lord's place prior to entering the Kingdom of Heaven. Each day, we are blessed with all that God has given to us, and often we take it for granted. The sunrise, the beautiful blue sky, a coat of snow on a winter morning, or the warm sun on a summer day all come from God's great providence for each of us. Whether we reside on the prairie or in the mountains, we spend each of our days in the Lord's dwelling place. We must take time to enjoy the gifts we have been given.
The choices we make here will determine where we spend eternity. While we enjoy God's splendor on Earth, the Kingdom of Heaven offers rewards we can only dream about. It the Lord's dwelling place to which we all aspire.
