A Shield

Monday, February 3, 2014

Monday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Lord, rise up and save me. But you, O LORD, are my shield; My glory, you lift up my head! When I call out to the LORD, he answers me from his holy mountain. (Psalm 3:4-5)

What does it mean to be a shield? "To shield" is to protect from a danger, risk or unpleasant experience. The windows on our homes shield us from wind, snow and rain. We may shield our children from a terrible or sad story on the news. When we are faced with danger, risk or sadness, we are not alone. God is our shield, protecting us from harm and keeping us safe in his love. Even if we don't understand God's plan, He has a purpose for us and for our lives, and He will be with us always shielding us along the way.

Protector God,

Who hears our prayers and is with us always,

Help us to feel Your presence and comfort today,

That we might help others know Your great Love.

Amen.
