I've Got This

Thursday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time

“Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick – no food, no sack, no money in their belts.” (Mark 6:7-8)

Well here He goes again - instructing the twelve to do something that is so out of the ordinary. Doesn't it seem a little crazy that Jesus asks His disciples to take this journey without food and money? I'm thinking Jesus could have at least allowed them an overnight bag. Imagine traveling like that today. I would appear more than a little out of place at an airport without even as much as a carry-on.

The message is the same today as it was 2,000 years ago. Jesus gives us everything we need. He is our planner and provider. Today His words to us would be, "Hey, I've got this." I find myself spending a lot of time organizing and preparing for what I think lies ahead in my day. Is my lunch packed? Am I prepared for everything on my calendar? Are deadlines met? The list goes on. I'm sure the disciples, like me, would have preferred an agenda, but they didn't exactly get one. As a result, the disciples drove out demons, which likely would not have been on their agenda.

Today, tomorrow, or the day after, your agenda may change or you may be asked to do something that seems a little crazy. Maybe it's God saying, "Hey I've got this." Trust in God's plan, because it usually turns out better than we could have imagined. In the end, you will do bigger and better things than you could have ever planned!

Loving God,

Give us the courage to be open to Your plan,

that we may do the work You created us to do.

Continue to guide us as we walk with You each day. Amen
