To be human is to be brokenhearted. Whoever travels the road of life has times of sadness. Examples abound — loss of a job, death of a loved one, accidents, rejection of a loved one and illness. Many of us remember that first love in our teenage years and how much it hurt when that special someone said the relationship was over. We cried and could not understand how that could be. Later we learned it was just a small bump in the road. There were greater hills to climb.
In order to write a great love song or poem or to paint a magnificent picture, times of great human emotion are needed. We feel the brokenness and express it so that others may feel comfort and understanding. Each of us can reach out to hold the hand of the brokenhearted.
Did you know that the Lord knows your troubles and sadness? While Christ lived on this earth, he felt pain, sadness and sorrow. He cried. He did this for us. He is indeed close to the brokenhearted.
