Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord
“He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High.” (Luke 1:38)
In today’s Gospel, we read about the angel Gabriel coming to Mary to share the news she would conceive and bear a son. “You shall name him Jesus and he will be great and called the Son of the Most High.”
Can you imagine the shock and how troubled she was at this news? Recently, a previous patient and good family friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. She too was shocked and deeply troubled. Sitting down to tell someone they have cancer is never easy. Likewise it is never easy to see a spouse, mother, sister or family member receive this news. If you read further in Luke you will see Mary shows great faith by saying, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”
Our patients show great faith each day as they face their challenges. I’m always amazed at their faith and humbled as we carry forward the healing ministry of Jesus.
we thank You for all the gifts You bestow upon us.
Thank You especially for the gift of faith.
Be with us each day as we carry on the healing ministry of Jesus.
Guide our hands as we do Your work
In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
