“Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands; break into song; sing praise. R. The Lord has made known his salvation.” (Psalm 98:3-4)
Salvation is not always a comfortable topic, because to think of salvation is to embrace mortality. In this Psalm, the Psalmist is singing joyfully to the Lord about the salvation we can find in Him. I love this Psalm because it tells me to embrace the salvation that God has for us, and to simply sing joyfully about what God has done for us.
Finding joy in Jesus' salvation is not always easy. Earlier this year, my grandmother became suddenly ill and passed away two weeks later. I have been so blessed to enjoy a very close relationship with her and to see her strong influence in every corner of my life. It was devastating to lose her, and I tear up over very simple things that remind me of her. But in the midst of it all, the joy I feel over her life and how it impacted me and my entire family is only surpassed with the knowledge that she is experiencing the eternal life that is promised to us through the Lord's salvation. Having faith in a life beyond this world makes the grief a little less. Her life isn't a memory but a living legacy of faith, hope and love. I can't sing with joy every day over salvation when I am, quite simply, just missing her. However, my sadness can't remain for very long when I am reminded of the promises made to us through God's salvation.
