Memorial of Saint Catherine of Siena, Virgin and Doctor of the Church
“The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had everything in common.” (Acts 4:32)
This passage refers to life in the early Christian community. What an exciting time it was for them, unified with hearts on fire to share the news! In this Easter Season, we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, which reconciles us to God.
Think how powerful it would be to be part of a community that was of one heart and mind. When I consider some of the teams and committees that I serve on, I wonder if it is even possible for a group to function like that. We try to get everyone “on the same page” to work effectively and move forward, and that is viewed as success. The Apostles took teamwork to a whole new level, and what an example that is for us!
How would the healing ministry of Jesus benefit if all who are Avera were a “community of one heart and mind?” What could we accomplish for the good of the individuals we care for, our communities and the entire region?
Avera’s mission is the foundation that unites us to that single-minded focus and purpose: “to make a positive impact in the lives and health of person and communities by providing quality services guided by Christian values.” Compassion, hospitality and stewardship strengthen our common bond, and these Christian values guide our decisions.
These are very challenging times for our ministry, but staying of one heart and mind as we serve in our varied roles will help us whether it is at the system level making a strategic decision, or in the regional administrative councils as local and facility matters are discussed. In every interaction we have with a patient, resident, family member or any internal or external customer, staying true to our mission and values will strengthen our commitment to be of one heart and mind. Each day we choose to be that community of believers when we demonstrate Compassion, a positive Attitude with Responsiveness and Engagement. (C.A.R.E.)
we praise you and rejoice in this season of Easter
May Avera be a community of one heart and mind,
serving in Your healing ministry.
Please guide us through our journey.
In the Name of Jesus. Amen.
