“It is this disciple who testifies to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true. There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books
that would be written.” (John 21:24-25)
Time travel ... who wouldn’t love to see that? Can you imagine transporting the birth, life and death of Jesus to the 21st century? How would Joseph and Mary handle the paparazzi? Imagine every step of Jesus recorded on our iPhones. How about a reality TV show, “New this season, ‘Jesus ... the Teen Years.’” I’m trying to wrap my head around the number of photos, news stories and words in print that would be at our fingertips about the mortal life of our Savior. There wouldn’t be a large enough world wide web to hold it all. Talk about crashing the server!
I think the interesting part of this comparison to present day is the story behind these verses. Quite simply, Jesus wants us to follow Him. What John has written here is true, as is what all of the other authors have written about Jesus in the Bible, and your choice is to follow Him or not. It’s probably not quite the same “follow him” as we witness with the paparazzi today who scramble to get the latest scoop or photo. There is no “fifteen minutes of fame” for the Lord. He is eternity.
