Pentecost Sunday - Mass during the Day

"Lord, send out your Spirit and renew the face of the earth.” (Psalm 104:1) “To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)

Today we celebrate Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit. This is an important feast for all of us as we celebrate that our Advocate has arrived! Jesus promised: “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name will teach you everything and remind you of all I told you.” This is truly a gift given to each of us. Are we open to let the Holy Spirit teach us and work within us?

Each day many come to work at Avera sharing their talents and their leadership for a very worthy cause: the healing ministry of Jesus. Each one — nurse, housekeeper, accountant, administrator, educator and lab and computer technologist — shares his or her expertise through the values of compassion, stewardship and hospitality for the good of others. Each of us can be an open vessel through which God manifests His Spirit through our attitudes and actions. The Spirit works through our talents. We especially count on the Spirit when we are tired, overwhelmed or frustrated.

Today, let us open ourselves to this manifestation of the Spirit and look to the Spirit to teach us and remind us what Jesus showed us with his life. We are entrusted with this healing ministry and count on the Spirit to direct our ways.

Come Holy Spirit,

work through us to renew the face of the earth.
