Wednesday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

“Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”(Matthew 5:19)

We are all afforded the greatest gift possible from an all-powerful and all-loving God. This is the gift of eternal life. However, this does not come without an investment on our part. We must learn, understand and obey the teachings of Christ. We also must be willing to share with others the importance of Christ’s teachings.

This does not mean we are all comfortable spending our days sharing the Lord’s teachings with those around us. We can be disciples of Christ and show others the importance of His word by setting a good example, living our lives in a manner which rejects sin and reaching out to help those around us who are in need.  We must not lose sight of the fact that sinning and teaching others to sin has serious consequences. To share God’s commandments, either through teaching or through our day-to-day actions is what we are called to do, and the Kingdom of heaven will be our reward.

Heavenly Father,

You shine the light on our path and teach us to walk in Your ways.

Through Your teaching, we know great things come to those who obey Your commandments.

Guide us, Lord, as we stray from Your words and keep us strong as temptations arise.

We must always be mindful of the price You paid to save us.

In Your most holy Name we pray. Amen.
