Saturday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

“So we are ambassadors for Christ ...” (2 Corinthians 20)

Right now I am in Jérémie, Haiti, on the Avera medical mission trip along with 10 others.  Today we went to the mountains of western Haiti to help the health agents of the Haitain Health Foundation do their work. People in our group had different jobs including doing weights, pap smears, breast exams and helping in any way possible. Tomorrow we will do the same along with hand washing and painting the fingernails of children. We have hygiene kits and little dresses and pants to hand out.

The Haitian people are so grateful for what we bring and how we help. As we sit and talk about our day, we realize that we are doing Christ's work in the mountains of Haiti. We are His ambassadors and show His love by our smiles and visits with the workers and the patients. We know that we can't cure every disease or make the whole country change, but we can still show love. We thank God for the opportunity to do the work that He gave us to do.

Dear Heavenly Father, Creator of all people,

be with us each day as we serve for You.

No matter where in the world we are, help us to see how we show Your love.

Let us be at peace in knowing that You will use whatever we do for the good of humankind. Guide us to see Your will.

We thank You for the opportunity to work in Haiti

or the United States or wherever You will send us.

In Christ's Name we pray. Amen.
