Christ, My Rock

Thursday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time
“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.” (Matthew 7:24)
Life is not easy. We all have to face many trials and tribulations. Sometimes the challenges are physical, like a sprained ankle that has you limping for six months when you were planning to run your first half-marathon in Chicago. Or maybe, like me, you become so ill that you have to go to the hospital to receive IV antibiotics for pneumonia.
Other times, our challenges are mental. I have found it challenging to resist that extra piece of dessert or show compassion to that difficult person who, when examined with a loving heart, needed a little bit of sunshine in their life.
We face challenges each and every day. If we don’t have a strong foundation to stand on, these challenges can easily pile up and overwhelm us. My foundation is built on Christ, who is my rock. In all that I do, I start from this rock on which I have built my life. When faced with a difficult challenge, I am so grateful that I can turn to my rock, my Lord. Life is not easy, and it may not always seem fair. We will have challenges to face, and we will have obstacles to overcome. The important part is how we respond to these challenges and obstacles. Do you have a rock to turn to?
You are my rock and my foundation.
Give me strength to live my life for You and help me to become a better servant
for You each and every day. Through Christ our Lord.
