“But I pray to you, O LORD, for the time of your favor, O God! In your great kindness answer me with your constant help.” (Psalm 69:14)
Life in today’s world is hectic, to say the least. Our ability for instant communication, regardless of where we are, makes it hard for us to sit back and relax.
I remember the quiet of sitting outside with my family on summer evenings. All we heard were the sounds of crickets chirping in the dark. Today when I sit outside with my family I hear the sounds of cell phones, text messages, email deliveries and portable video games. The memory of peaceful summer evenings seems distant to me now. These days when I sit there, my mind is full of things I need to accomplish both at work and at home. It is often hard to just listen for the quiet.
It is at those times I need to turn to God in prayer. A warm peaceful feeling flows over me when I truly let my mind clear in prayer, when I truly let God take control. I reluctantly admit that I don’t let God take control often enough. When I am feeling the stress of today’s world, I need to stop and remember that warm peaceful feeling that comes from above. I need to remember that God is always there to listen to my prayers and offer me help. God is never too busy.
