Wednesday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
“From the rising of the sun to its setting let the name of the LORD be praised.” (Psalm 113:3)
I love to run at sunrise. I love the quiet of the early morning, the colors of the breaking day and the recurring sign of hope that comes with the sun. I often recite a silent (breathless) prayer of thanks when I come up the hill on my route and see the first signs of dawn. I thank God for the beauty of His creation and all He has provided for us.
It’s a good start. However, He deserves more. This verse reminds me I should always place Him above all else. With so many other priorities — family, friends, work, tennis camp, Taekwondo, mowing the lawn, hobbies — it can be difficult to find time to praise Him. Thank goodness God doesn’t look at our prayer requests that way! He finds time for all of our needs.
So the next time you see a sunrise, sunset or other miraculous work of God which fills your heart with awe and makes you smile, let it serve as a reminder. Faith first. Take time to praise Him. Make sure He’s at the top of your list.
thank You for all of the amazing ways You remind us of Your love.
From sunrises to sunsets, from flowers to songbirds,
let us remember when we see or hear these reminders:
You belong at the top of our list.
Help us to take the time to stop and appreciate Your work, and say “Glory to God in the highest.”
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
