We have all heard the old joke about the definition of a consultant: a person who is from at least 50 miles away and carries a briefcase. Every day we experience consultants who offer expert advice and leadership. Our city, state and federal governments, our hospitals and schools all use consultant, and for good reason. Consultants can bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the table.
A good consultant will always find the local source of knowledge and experience and learn from him or her. Nothing can replace the local people who know the details of a situation.
Jesus was not given credit by his own community for the wisdom He was blessed with because they knew Him and His background. He was not from 50 miles away and did not carry a briefcase. He was the local expert with the knowledge from the Father, but no one could see that.
How often are we blind to the messages delivered to us? How often do we look for answers in other locations when the answer is right before us? Today, look around and recognize the face of Jesus in those you meet. They just might be the consultant sent to help us.
