“As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him, rooted in him and built upon him and established in the faith as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”(Colossians 2:6-7 )
Life in Christ makes us complete. We do this because of who He is and what He has done for us. In this reading, Paul helps the Colossians deal with basic human needs that false teachers were preying upon. Each of us have felt fear, guilt and feeling alone at some time, and each of us yearns for forgiveness, security and completeness to our being. Dealing with fears and guilt can drive us to look somewhere other than Christ. Sometimes it takes a warning to refocus on the fullness of a life with Christ, or it may simply happen as a moment when the right way becomes clear.
With all of the empty promises in our world today, it’s comforting and uplifting to know there is a constant companion in Christ. There’s no need to even have an app, no special codes to know, no hoops to jump through to get the best deal around. And it’s free.
Times of need and sorrow are often when a person reaches out and begins to pray. But, the habit of prayer and practicing faith can create a fullness and richness that never goes away. It’s sort of like the art of balancing your account by making a few more deposits than withdrawals to stay on track. So it is with worship and praise. Don’t save your faith for a rainy day. Deepen it daily.
In our world of “new and improved,” it’s easy to get caught up in wanting the hottest product on the market. Cool packaging and flashy promises are so tempting. Just as the Colossians were tempted by other prophets, today there are many distractions that lead us away from Christ.
Whatever need or blessing you have today, Christ is there.
