“If you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4)
As I write this I am heavy-hearted with the crisis in Syria. When I do not balance prayer and the Word of God with the amount of news I read I become overwhelmed. Colossians reminds me that I am a child of God through my baptism and my life is safe with Him. Because of my hope in Jesus Christ I need to seek and think of what is above.
In today’s reading Paul reminds us that through our Baptism we are one with Christ. God’s grace enables us to get rid of the old self so we can live as our Creator has intended. Baptism requires an act of obedience for the believer. It requires turning from our sin and selfishness to serve the Lord.
When Christ returns there will be a general assembly of all the redeemed; and all those whose life is now hidden with Christ will appear with Him in glory. Stop and imagine how awesome this is going to be. Should I not set my sights on that world?
