Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” (John 3: 14-15)

The readings for today remind us of Jesus' death on the cross.  In Avera facilities, there are crucifixes on the walls of many rooms.  They are reminders of Jesus' sacrifice for us. They also show us the reason why we are doing the sacred work and calling of health care.

Many people wear or display crosses in their home. We see crosses on mountaintops and along highways.  Do you take a moment to recall what they represent? As we work, may we show the Avera value of compassion that flows from the compassion shown by Jesus in His life.

Dear Father,

who loves us so much to send Jesus to this earth,

help us to see the cross as a reminder of that great love.

Help us to show that compassion to those we serve every day in Avera.

In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
