Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Rejoice with me for I have found my lost sheep” (Luke 15:6)

Today’s Gospel touches an experience we all know. Remember the time you lost something very precious to you or maybe even had a loved one who was missing? You search in every nook and cranny hoping and praying that the lost will be found. Remember the relief and joy when you found your lost treasure. You looked carefully to ensure this precious treasure was intact, and you held it close realizing that it might have been gone forever. Then it is time to celebrate, to tell your family and friends so you can all rejoice together.

Jesus assures us in today’s Gospel that our God seeks daily for the lost and celebrates with utmost rejoicing whenever a lost one is found. God cares that much about what happens to us. We are that precious in God’s eyes!

Loving God,

who sent Your only Sonto search for the lost

and rejoice in those found,

help us to love each other as You love us.

We ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
